Who’s Rookie of the Week?

I’m watching the Orioles on sportsline.com’s game tracker today and they load the bases up in the bottom of the 7th with one out against the Yankees. Being the impatient person I am, I can’t stand watching on the internet any longer, and I go on DirecTV’s website and buy the MLB extra innings package. The Orioles score 2 runs (with me watching on TV now) and win the game, sweeping the Yankees. And I spent $170 to watch 3 innings of baseball. Granted I get to watch every game for the rest of the season now too 🙂

The O’s and Nationals are both 8-4 and leading their divisions and just swept a 3 game series at home (granted, the Nats’ opponent Diamondback’s aren’t exactly the $200 million Yankees that the Orioles played this weekend). I’ll take that any day 🙂

Miracles and Bar Fights

On Saturday night, the Illini trailed the Arizona Wildcats 75 – 60 with 4:00 remaining in the game. The instanity that ensued will likely have a permanent place on my TiVo and is something I will not soon forget. Read the rest of this entry →

Bruce Pearl

I mentioned Bruce Pearl in my last entry and I thought I’d actually go further in depth on this whole angle of the Illini game on Thursday. In the early 1990’s, the Illini and Iowa both competed to recruit Deon Thomas, who was Illinois’ Mr. Basketball. After Thomas chose Illinois, Iowa assistant coach Bruce Pearl called him to question his decision to attend Illinois. Read the rest of this entry →

My weekend in Champaign

Last Thursday my phone starts ringing at roughly 11:30 PM. I’m ready to go to bed but I pick it up. Its Trevor, and he has an extra ticket to see the Illini in the NCAA tournament in Indianapolis on Saturday and he’s offering it to me. I agree to go and we decide to all meet up in Champaign. Unimpressive First Half

Yes its been a while since I’ve updated. I just watched the first quarter of the Superbowl and I must say both of these teams are looking very horrible right now. Read the rest of this entry →

Writing a song

So I was at Sameer’s house on Sunday and at about 3 in the morning, we get this brilliant idea to write a song. I can usually sit in front of the piano and put out some riffs, but this is a whole new animal. Every time I write some chord progressions on the piano, I keep thinking it’d be easier if I had lyrics to go with them. And every time I try to write lyrics they end up being sappy and dopey. I’ll keep you updated on whats going on. Read the rest of this entry →

Illini Win!

Illini 74
Hoyas 59

Tonight Rahul, Brian, Ben and I saw the Illini defeat the Georgetown Hoyas at the MCI center. Somehow Ticketmaster was actually good to us and we got baller seats in the 2nd row behind the press right behind the basket. The Hoyas played us well in the beginning, but we ended the first half with a 12-2 run and never looked back. We led by as many as 20 before finally winning by 15. Read the rest of this entry →

What a day to be an Illini fan

So we replaced Ron Turner with ex-Florida head coach Ron Zook. Now some might be upset with this development, but lets look at the facts: Turner led us to a 3-8 record in a Big Ten that wasn’t particularly tough. Zook led the Gators to a 7-4 record in an SEC that had top 10 teams Georgia and Auburn (I’m not sure if Florida actually played either, but needless to say, its was tougher than the Big Ten). God Bless Illinois … and no place else

Illinois 91
Wake Forest 73

Today our basketball team dominated the number one team in the country. We led by as many as 32 points before we loaded the court with our bench and Wake Forest made the final score respectable. Some observations: Read the rest of this entry →
